The Civil War

Is the Civil War worth it's fascination in American History? And, what if the South won? Would the US still be split over the states rights issues?

FASTING!

What is it? Not eating! Why do you do it? To attain a type of cleansing and spiritual clarity! When do you do it? Whenever you feel the need.

Jews have Yom Kippur
Christians have Lent
Muslims have Ramadan
Buddhists have most anytime! Buddha LOVED fasting.
And Hinduism--well, Gandhi wasn't exactly portly.

In this space, post about your fasting experience and what can be learned from the process. Is fasting important, or just an interesting sidelight to a faith?

Please fast for at least 12 hours, but I say--GO FOR THE 24!

Evil Doing Judges!

Political corruption is not limited to the 1st 2 branches. Here's an example of the 3rd branch stepping up in a big way. Note with PA pride this band of scurrilous evil doers. OK, there's 2 judges, but that's still bad enough. Click on this link for the Washington Post story.

Corruption in politics.

Everyday we see and hear tales of political corruption. In fact, the selling of a Senate seat that coast an Illinois governor his job was a common practice until the 17th amendment turned the direct vote over to the people. In the former system, the state legislatures, usually headed by one party machine or the other, brokered the appointment with the expectation that he wealthy, respected member of the party would enrich their coffers. In other words, our recent corruption pales compared to the politics of the 1800's, where the dead vote, the jobs are sold and the government contract is not awarded to low bidder---they are awarded to high briber!

All this said, how much should we be concerned with current political corruption? What is you expectation of honesty and integrity regarding an official? If an official was corrupt, but also effective----would you still want that official in office?

Relocation of Native Americans

The early 1800's brought about the final push to bring the Indians into direct contact with the Americans. What should indian policy have been in the 1800's. Should we have a policy now or do you believe in tribal assimulation?

Religion: Are Dietary Laws valuable for a faith?

Almost every religion has some dietary laws on what can and can't be eaten. Sometimes, as in keeping Kosher for Jews, these laws should be followed at all times. For Christians, dietary laws are followed in periods of fasting and also Lent, but many Protestant denominations minimize the laws themselves.

What do you think of dietary laws and would the ability to eat or not eat certain foods be a spiritual reminder for you? Would we have fewer food purity problems in society if we practiced a standardized Kosher way of food preparation?

A-PUSH Revolution

You say you want a Revolution.....
Were the Founding Fathers motivated more by their ideals or their wallets? What support can you provide for your opinion?
